It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) fasted on the day of Ashura. He also ordered fasting on that day. How many fasts? It is narrated on the authority of Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas that the Holy Prophet said: If I live till next year, I will also fast on 9th Muharram. In another narration, he said: You should fast Ashura. And also oppose the Jews. And fast with it the day before or after. Therefore, it is better to fast for two days now.
